Jul 2 2010
GREETINGS,
It’s great to be back in Georgia! For those that didn’t know, I’ve spent the last few weeks in Kentucky taking a couple of classes for my degree program at Asbury Theological Seminary. In case you’re wondering, the classes included 1) what it really means to live in community and 2) a cross-cultural urban mission experience in Lexington’s East End neighborhood (I’ll share some stories with you in an upcoming sermon). The summer semester continues for me with an online study of the book of Psalms. Thanks to all of you for your support of my continuing education!
As for happenings at COAH, Pastor Chris is now on vacation, summer attendance has been great, and there are lots of upcoming activities. Here are a few things you need to be aware of this week:
1) ONE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE JULY 4TH AT 10:00 AM
This Sunday July 4th we will only have one worship time at 10:00 AM. We are asking folks to help us get the word out by posting it on their Facebook account or by other means that may be available to them. In fact, summer attendance has been so good that this could be the last year that we reduce to one worship time over the July 4th weekend. What a blessing! We return to our regular worship times of 9:30 and 11:00 on Sunday July 11th.
This Sunday also continues the SUMMER BLOCK BUSTERS series as we head into its final two weeks. Rick Fueston, one of COAH’s lay speakers, will be giving the message this week so don’t miss it.
2) UPCOMING RESET SERIES (JULY 18 – AUGUST 1)
In a recent e-note, Pastor Chris reminded us that “we need to be reminded every so often why it is that we exist as a church and what it is that God has called us to do. So, starting the 3rd Sunday of July (18th) we’re going to hit the power button on our congregation and “reset,” reloading and rebooting our purpose, mission and vision.”
Do you really know COAH’s purpose, mission, and vision? Or maybe you still have some questions?? I hope you will be joining us for this 3 week series to find out more. Check out the promo video here:

3) BEYOND CHURCH – NEW TEXTING AND DRIVING LAW TAKES EFFECT
Finally, a new law took effect on Thursday July 1, 2010 that you may or may not be aware of, depending on your summer travels. It involves the use of electronic devices by drivers. In my daily commute I have personally witnessed too many near misses due to this and know the unsafe conditions this activity creates. Take care on the roads…
The new Georgia Law from Senate Bill 360, states: "No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any public road or highway of this state while using a wireless telecommunications device to write, send, or read any text based communication, including but not limited to a text message, instant message, electronic mail, or Internet data." The fine for offenders will be $150 and one point on their driver license.
Grace and peace to you all, Pastor Ed
