About Us

City On A Hill or (COAH) is the second daughter church of Hillside United Methodist on Towne Lake.

Hillside has a passion and vision for starting new churches, launching their first daughter church, Liberty Hill (in Canton), in 2003, followed by City On A Hill on Aug. 13, 2006.

Hillside United Methodist Church - Our Mother Church

On that first Sunday at Johnston Elementary School, where we continue to worship today, 201 people consisting of launch team members, their family and friends, and lots of first time visitors saw the beginning of a unique expression of the Christian faith.

Pastor Chris teaching.

Johnston is our home on Sundays and we go all out to make it feel that way. The environment is warm and welcoming with comfy seats, a coffee and conversation atmosphere and just enough religious furnishings to inspire the spirit.

The worship is upbeat and joyful but most importantly authentic.

The messages are relevant, thoughtfully applying biblical texts to topics and concerns of today. They are respectful of other’s opinions while also being encouraging and challenging to those who desire a serious look at Christian faith.

The parking at Johnston is plentiful and no parking spot is too far from the front doors. We worship in the cafeteria, though you’d never know it because of the hard work we put into making it worshipful and inviting. It is literally less than a dozen steps from the front doors.

Our children’s area is immediately to the right of the worship space and is well secured and hospitable given that this is an elementary school.

We look forward to the time when we have a more permanent home in our community but our priority is to first and always make a difference in our community.

You may have seen us at a water-give away or a balloon give away or when we gave $1,000 of gas away to single moms on Mother’s Day. You may have seen us at Johnston’s open house giving away doughnuts, water, and 100 brand new book bags. You may have seen us collecting food or clothing for Must ministries, a local help-based organization. You may have seen us beautifying the grounds at Johnston School. You may have seen us at our free Easter Egg Hunt at the community center. Or, maybe you haven’t seen us yet, but chances are you will soon.
